The AC motor is good for draw works and top drive applications and both on- and offshore drilling, and instead of being cooled by a blower, it uses water circulated through the unit’s frame and shaft. The design protects the motor from wetness, dust and other irritants, all while producing less noise. Reducing noise is a simple and effective way to make conditions safer and more comfortable for rig workers. Installers can even retrofit the motors — which, by the way, are flameproof and completely enclosed — on current installations where additional axial length is available.
